— Les eaux de vie du bateaU —
In the heart of Ardèche (France), nestled in the Eyrieux Valley, discover the passion of two artisan distillers, Julien Torlet and Tiphaigne Marie, known as Moisson.
Liqueurs and brandies
100% Handmade & from Ardèche

The Meeting
It has the flavor of passion—the one shared by Julien and Tiphaigne for artisanal craftsmanship. Julien took over the family still, which his father had introduced him to. “I’ve always been fascinated by the magic of transforming must into brandy. Distilling is about extracting the essence of a season from the plant world. ”
Tiphaigne describes himself as “passionate about transformation. First, through the pleasures of the table—I’m a foodie—and because accessing quality products also involves crafting them.”
For several years, they continued the still’s primary activity: custom distillation. Until their enthusiasm gave rise to a new project: creating and sharing exceptional products.
A Taste of Ardèche
The fruits and plants used in Julien and Tiphaigne’s « eaux-de-vie » and liqueurs grow within a 30-kilometer radius of the still.
As for the water that feeds it, it flows from a spring upstream from the still. This commitment to all-local ingredients stems from a twofold desire: to work with fruits that “taste” of the terroir; and to partner with small-scale producers.
Since 1929
Julien and Tiphaigne’s still is one of those that dotted the countryside at the beginning of the last century, when every farm made its own musts from the year’s harvest.
Built in 1929, it features three 200-liter pots and a rectification column, all heated by a steam boiler.

Liqueurs, creams , and spirits
We distill our own neutral-tasting spirit. It will be used for the slow maceration of our fruits, flowers, or plants. The filtered juice will then be mixed with water and sugar in proportions appropriate for the desired product.
Framboise

Experience the full aromatic richness of raspberries in this smooth, indulgent liqueur. The variety we use, La Meeker, is known as the “queen of raspberries.”
It is grown by our neighbor Sylvain Lapra in the town of Chalencon.
Arquebuse

Immerse yourself in the world of this plant, which is said to have “as many virtues as there are hairs on its head.” A dominant green aroma enriched with subtle notes of melon and a hint of lemony bitterness.
We grow it on our terraces in Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux.
Sureau

We’ve enhanced the freshness of this liqueur with a hint of lemon that comes through on the finish.
Every year, we harvest wild elderflowers between Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux and Chalencon.
Crème de Châtaigne

This cream faithfully recreates the delicate, sweet, and fragrant flavor you experience when you bite into a Comballe chestnut, roasted to perfection! The chestnuts are harvested by Aude Guinet in Chalencon, on the slopes of Julien’s chestnut grove.
Esprit de Verveine

Rediscover the delicate citrus notes of verbena in this digestif. Lightly drying our leaves gives it a remarkably long finish. We grow our own plants in Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux.
Esprit de Prune

Rediscover the delicate citrus notes of verbena in this digestif. Lightly drying our leaves gives it an exceptionally long finish. We grow our own plants in Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux.
Eaux de vie / Brandy
They are made through the natural fermentation of our fruit in barrels. The resulting fruit wine is then distilled
in our still to produce a brandy.
- Eau de vie de Poire williams
- Eau de vie de Mirabelle
Poire williams

Clean and bold, this brandy proudly showcases the distinctive flavor and texture of the William pear, well-known and much-loved.
Our fruit is grown and carefully selected by Olivier Boyer in the town of Livron-sur-Drôme.
Mirabelle

Straightforward and uncomplicated, this jam captures all the simplicity of the mirabelle plum, whose sweet, delicate flavor we love so much.
Our fruit comes from Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux and the Eyrieux Valley.
Brandy aged in oak barrels
- Eau de vie de Poire ambrée
- Eau de vie d’Abricot ambrée
- Eau de vie de Prune ambrée
Poire ambrée

Six months of aging in oak barrels have enhanced this pear brandy, giving it a smooth, rounded flavor and complexity.
Our barrels are custom-made for our distillery by the Bouyoud cooperage in Saint-Marcellin.
Abricot ambrée

The unique character of this brandy, aged for six months in oak barrels, is reflected in a two-stage palate, with a long finish featuring notes of jam and a hint of caramel.
We work with the Bergeron variety, grown by Olivier Boyer in Livron-sur-Drôme.
Prune ambrée

Straightforward and full-bodied, this brandy reveals its character without hesitation! It stands out for its lovely structure on the palate. It captures the tartness of the fruit when you bite into it.
Our plums are harvested by Hervé Mazot in Saint-Julien-Labrousse.

Life at « The Bateau »

The hamlet known as “Le Bateau” gets its name from the fact that it was once a crossing point over the Eyrieux River. By using rowboats propelled by hand using a cable that spanned the river, people could avoid the detour to the Chervil Bridge, built around 1300 on the road from Gluiras to Chalencon.
The Cuer family, our neighbors, continued to take their goats on their daily trek until just recently!
